The Solution

The solution is to let God be the loving parent we seek! As Serenity Seekers becomes a safe place for us, we find the freedom to express all the hurts and fears we have kept inside and to free ourselves from the shame and blame that are carry-overs from the past. We become adults who are no longer imprisoned by childhood reactions. We recover the child within us, learning to accept and love ourselves the way Jesus loves and accepts us.

The healing begins when we risk moving out of isolation. Feelings and buried memories will return, but by gradually releasing the burden of unexpressed grief, we slowly move out of the past. We learn to let God show us how to nurture the emotionally wounded child within us with love, gentleness, humor and respect.

Although we had alcoholic or dysfunctional parents, God has given us the 12 steps of recovery based on Scripture. We believe the 12 steps of recovery are the action and work through which God heals us. We use the Scriptures; we use the steps; we use the meetings; we use the telephone. We share our experience, strength and hope in Christ with one another. We learn to restructure our sick thinking one day at a time. When we release our parents from responsibility for our actions today, we become free to make healthful decisions as actors, not reactors. We progress from hurting to healing to helping. We awaken to a sense of wholeness we never knew was possible.
